Pastry & beer pairing tastings — at your home or overlooking our hop plants

SUNGURA

Sart-Dames-Avelines, Walloon Brabant

One pastry.
One beer.
A single signature.

At Sungura, the pastry chef is also the brewer. The dessert and the beer come from the same hands, in the same workshop, with hops grown in front of the house. What your guests taste next, they won't forget.

The pastry & beer pairing at Sungura

The idea

The Entremets & Beer pairing

Wine with dessert often overwhelms one or the other. Beer holds a conversation: bitterness lifts the sweetness, bubbles refresh the palate, roasted notes answer caramel. Gaëtan creates both at the same time, and that is exactly why the pairing works.

  1. 01

    The hops grow here

The bines climb up the wires, a few metres from the bakehouse. We prune them, harvest them and dry them. These hops give Kidjani, our IPA, a herbal bitterness that leaves plenty of room for the dessert.

  2. 02

The beer is brewed on site

A nanobrewery, small batches, fermentations checked day by day. Each brew is designed for a specific pairing: a touch of acidity here, a malty roundness there, depending on the dessert it will accompany.

  3. 03

    The pastry answers the beer

Dark chocolate and roasted cacao nibs, apple tatin and salted butter caramel, apricot infused with rosemary, yuzu and red cherry. The textures are built to hold their own against the glass: neither too heavy nor too tame. Then, glass in hand, we explain why it works.

The experiences

Two ways to experience the pairing

At your home, around your own table, with everything brought along and a pairing talked through from the first glass to the last. Or with us, among the hop plants, with a tour of the nanobrewery and the smell of still-warm malt. Either way, all you have to do is open the door.

The shop

To take away, to give, to share

Our beers and pastries can be ordered online, for collection on site or delivery within Walloon Brabant. Each pastry shows the beer that suits it best, so the pairing follows you all the way to your table.

Kidjani01

Kidjani

€55

per case of 24 × 33 cl
i.e. €2.29 per bottle

A herbaceous IPA, made with hops grown outside the workshop

Frank, green bitterness, with aromas of white flowers and cut grass. The house IPA, brewed with the hops we harvest on rue du Try.

Enjoy with — Superb with the Zeste Écarlate: the bitterness of the hops carries on the zing of the yuzu, which the cherry mousse then rounds off. As an aperitif, it stands up well to an aged Comté.

Bahari02

Bahari

€55

per case of 24 × 33 cl
i.e. €2.29 per bottle

Hoppy amber, golden caramel and a hop-driven finish

A clean, copper-coloured amber ale: the roundness of caramel malts, cut through by a frank hopping that keeps it from turning sweet.

Enjoy with — The signature pairing with the Automne Gourmand: the beer's caramel malts and the apple tatin echo each other, while the roasted buckwheat ties them together. Also excellent with smoked fish.

Ruka03

Ruka

€60

per case of 24 × 33 cl
i.e. €2.50 per bottle

Velvety stout, black coffee and dark chocolate

Roasted malts, a tight head, a long cocoa finish. Our winter stout, and dark chocolate's best friend.

Enjoy with — Made for the Ebène Sartoise, our all-chocolate entremets: the coffee in the beer and the cocoa nibs echo each other. Also sublime with a slice of walnut tart.

Rafiki04

Rafiki

€55

per case of 24 × 33 cl
i.e. €2.29 per bottle

Light blonde saison, white pepper and a dry finish

Blonde, dry and peppery from the yeast, light on the palate. The one you share slowly at the end of a meal.

Enjoy with — The signature pairing with L'Éclat de la Savane: the saison's dry, peppery finish lifts the apricot, and the rosemary bridges the gap with the yeast.

No full case of 24 × 33 cl left — restocking

The questions we often get asked

Can’t find your question here? Write to us — we usually reply the same day.

Ask a question
How much does a home tasting cost?+

Allow €45 per person, all inclusive: the beers, the pastries, the serving equipment and Gaëtan hosting the evening. The price per person goes down above fifteen guests. No hidden costs, no last-minute extras: the amount on the quote is the amount you pay.

How far do you travel?+

We come free of charge within 30 km of Sart-Dames-Avelines, which covers Nivelles, Genappe, Villers-la-Ville, Wavre, Waterloo and much of Walloon Brabant. Further afield, we add a modest mileage charge, stated before you book. Brussels and neighbouring Hainaut are entirely possible too.

Do there really need to be at least eight of us?+

Yes, for the home tasting: with fewer guests the pairing loses its spark and the trip no longer makes sense. If there are fewer of you, our on-site experience welcomes groups from six people, or we can put together a pairing box for you to take away.

What if someone has an allergy or doesn't drink alcohol?+

Let us know when you book. We adapt the pastries for common allergies (nuts, gluten, lactose) and always provide an alcohol-free alternative, made with the same care from unfermented wort and hop infusions. Nobody is left out.

Can I cancel or postpone?+

Postponing is free up to seven days before the date, no reason needed. After that, the tasting remains payable, because the pastries are already in production. Up to seven days before, you are refunded in full.

Can I give a tasting as a gift?+

That's actually one of the reasons people call us. Book a tasting in the recipient's name, on a date that suits them, or give a box of matched beers and pastries, to collect from the workshop or delivered within Walloon Brabant.
